Andy Miyares is not your ordinary athlete. At thirty one years old, he holds world records in swimming, he has dined with President Clinton at the White House, he has flown all over the United States to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity, he teaches swimming to children and he’s been featured in a television commercial. And Andy Miyares is a Special Olympics athlete.
Andy was born with Down Syndrome, a condition that causes physical and mental disabilities. With the support of his loving family, Andy has used sports to not only build his muscles, but to build his self-esteem.
Andy has been participating in Special Olympics for over 23 years. Andy found in Special Olympics continual opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with\his peers, families and communities.
